It all started when…
As young children growing up in Southern Baptist churches, Lance and I both spent a lot of time learning about missions and the work that God was doing across the globe. Even then, we both felt God tugging on our hearts to pay attention to our part in furthering His Kingdom to the nations. After we married and began serving in the local church in student ministry for about 15 years, we led out and participated in the mission work of our church. Then in January of 2018, we traveled to Kandern, Germany to lead worship for a Spiritual Emphasis Week at Black Forest Academy. While there, God pierced both of our hearts with His plan for our lives. He made it clear that He had gifted and equipped us to build relationships with and invest in the lives of students AND He had given us a heart for His work around the world. This place was the incredible intersection of each of these things. We could invest in and love on the children of missionaries and impact the work He is doing in over 60 different countries. About 18 months later, we were on the field as long-term missionaries with Black Forest Academy (with the sending organization, WorldVenture).

Why is the work we do in Germany important?
Many missionaries serving in over 60 different countries, in the dark places of the world, would not be able to stay on the field and do the thing that God equipped and called them to do, due to inadequate educational options for their children.
Black Forest Academy exists to meet that need. Every staff member at BFA is self supported. Thus, TeamDockrey relies on the support of the people God has called to partner with them in this endeavor.
How does this look on a day-to-day basis?
As the Assistant Chaplain for BFA, Lance’s day to day looks very much like youth ministry, but at a school, with international missionary kids. His team leads out in weekly chapel services, a student worship team, small group ministry, mentor ministry, service project trips, an annual high school retreat, and regular prayer and worship nights. Lance and Carol each lead a small group of students each week, and just do life alongside them, loving and investing in them and intentionally showing them Truth and pointing them to Christ. This year, Lance and Carol each get to lead a weekly discussion group as a part of the High School chapel service. Lance is serving as an Assistant Coach on both the boys Varsity Volleyball and Basketball teams. Carol is serving as the JV girls Basketball coach. Lance and Carol are the lead class sponsors for the BFA Class of ‘24. And, Lance is currently serving as an elder at Black Forest Christian Fellowship.
